News from society: A lower sugar intake during childhood in the 1950s – is linked to – a better health in later life

At MethaHealth, we are currently conducting research on the microbiome of children in Amsterdam and Portugal during the first 1,000 days of their lives to examine the effects on health, particularly tooth decay and obesity. We do not know how these children’s health will develop, but recent British research supports our study design.

In the early years after World War II, sugar was in short supply in the United Kingdom, and children grew up consuming little sugar. This group – now adults –  appears to be in better health than adults who had no restrictions on sugar intake during their childhood.
