Meike Wortel is assistant professor Evolutionary Systems Biology at the Microbiology department of the University of Amsterdam. She obtained her PhD on the Systems biology of microbial metabolism at the VU University Amsterdam and worked in evolutionary biology at the Universiteit van Oslo and the Origins Center subsequently.

She uses mathematical models to study microbial evolution, with a focus on antibiotic resistance and microbial communities such as the human gut microbiome. More information about her research can be found on www.meikewortel.com .
