Stanley Brul, professor of molecular biology and microbial food safety at the Faculty of Natural Sciences Mathematics and Informatics (FNWI) of the UvA, was trained as a biochemist at the same institution. He received his doctorate in research from the medical faculty in 1991.
After his PhD he specialized in microbiology at Radboud University Nijmegen. After working at Unilever R&D for eight years, he has been working at the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences of the UvA since 2002. He focuses on bacterial spore-forming organisms and the microbiome. In addition to the professorship, he fulfills various management roles in education and research.
