PD - WP2
ACTA

Susanne Pinto is motivated to understand the complexities of microbial ecosystems and their impacts on human health. Her research focuses on the temporal dynamics of the oral and gut microbiome and how these are influenced by sociocultural factors, behavior, and maternal health. Through her analyses, she aims to identify factors that support oral and metabolic health, particularly during the first 1000 days of life. These results will provide data and information for in silico and in vitro modeling.

Susanne holds a master’s degree in Biology, including programs in Evolution, Biodiversity, and Conservation, and Science Communication and Education. During her PhD she specialized in microbial ecology. Her doctoral project, Ecology meets human health, aimed to bridge the gap between clinical, microbiological, and ecological perspectives to improve an understanding of microbial dynamics, diseases, and treatment success. She applied theoretical frameworks and methodologies from the field of ecology to explore dynamical properties and interactions within the human gut microbiota.
